Visiting Santa with Grandma at The State Museum

How many more days until Christmas? That's the popular question around our house these days. Rogan wakes up very early every day and runs downstairs to, One: turn on the tree lights, Two: look for Neijel our elf and Three: move the candy cane on our advent calender one more day closer to Christmas! He's so excited he can hardly stand it. Yes, Grayson is just as excited but he also wants to sleep a bit longer than early bird Rogan. I don't blame him! Some days I wish I were sleeping even thirty minutes more. There are so many fun things to do in celebration of the most wonderful time of the year! We have had such a great time revisiting all of our holiday family traditions.

The boys couldn't wait to put up the tree the day after Thanksgiving. That's such a treat for all of us! We have so many special ornaments, from our hand painted Mickey ornaments to our special ornaments Santa leaves every year! So fun opening each one up and picking that special place on the tree where it will hang for the season! The boys love to decorate, it's the best part! The following weekend we made a trip to The State Museum with Grandma as we do every year since the boys were each very small. We take a train ride at Celebration Crossing on the L.S.Ayres train (many nostalgic memories for all), after our train ride, we make our way to Santa where the boys get to tell him their list of wishes. Afterwards we like to admire the old display windows and beautiful Christmas trees throughout the museum. Yes, next we must go the the museum store to pick out rocks because according to Rogan, "The State Museum has the best!" is case you didn't know, Rogan is a rock collector. What a magical adventure it is every year when we visit Santa at The State Museum! We look forward to it each December.

We also made our way to The Children's Museum for 'Jolly Days'! Love it and the best part...The Yule Slide!!! Who knew a slide could be so much fun right! One of the great things about being a parent is getting to experience all these fun holiday child festivities with our children. There's no greater gift! We also have done a lot of baking this season as always. The boys favorite is my sugar cookies. They love making the dough and rolling it out and cutting it and of course...eating it! When they've finished that, they are ready to ice  the cookies and eat the cookies! We took lots of yummy goodies to neighbors and friend's too! The boys love making their ginger bread houses every year also. It's a fun event our whole family enjoys.

This past Sunday, we took the boys on 'The Polar Bear Express' here in Fishers. That was so much fun! I was just as excited as the boys were! Maybe because I love the story as do our boys! We boarded the train after showing our tickets. Shortly there after, the train took off headed for  the North Pole. Along the way we got hot chocolate and cookies. After we finished our snacks, we heard a story of how the train became know as, 'The Polar Bear Express'. After the story the man in red himself joined us...Santa! We shared a perfect Sunday afternoon on The Polar Bear Express. On our way home we visited the famous Reynold's light display! It is a sight to see!

Well, this week we plan on making our way to Christmas at The Zoo. We hope the weather stays a bit warmer for Wednesday when we journey there.  I still want to take Rogan to Conner Prairie to see the Ginger Bread Village! It's just amazing these phenomenal houses on display! I went with Grayson and his class to see them last week. Rogan has seen them in the past but I think he would enjoy it again. Grayson's favorite was the Lucas Oil stadium ginger bread house. He's become a huge football fan! He is either watching football, playing football, reading about football or playing Madden football! He  will even watch recorded football games! We hope everyone is having a memorable holiday season and enjoying it with their family. Marc and I were even able to go see 'Plaid Tidings' a Christmas play showing here in Noblesville at The Belfry! It was so fun! The boys are ready for more snow and more hot chocolate and best of all...Christmas!

What a wonderful fall season we have had. We always kick into high gear when fall in here. There are so many fun things to do. We made our way to Conner Prairie for The Headless Horseman!! That's a tradition in the Mathias house and who could leave out The Haunted Guild at The Children's Museum! We always have to make our way there also! The boys look forward to going as soon as August hits! After crossing all our festivities off the list we had Grayson's 8th birthday! What fun! It was at Recreation Unlimited with all his friends and family to share in the fun! He had a blast as did everyone else as you can see from the pictures! After Grayson's birthday, we headed to Gatlinburg where Grayson got to spend his actual 8th birthday! What a special treat! It was beautiful in the smokies!! So much to see and do. The boys did great on the drive there and back and slept great, what more could you ask for. We always make a trip to The Pancake Pantry, best pancakes hands down!! We also like to head to the mountains and picnic and hike! We do that at least several times throughout the week. We took so many beautiful pictures! It's hard not to be amazed when your in the smoky mountains! The boys love our family vacations there! They got to swim at the water park at our resort a lot which they loved. I like that there's so much to do at our resort when we stay there, from restaurants, to swimming, to water park, playing board games by the huge fire place in the lobby while sipping cider and having freshly popped popcorn. We are blessed that our boys will have such great memories there.

We also attended a Colt's game as a family. Grayson by the way loves football and is obsessed! If given the opportunity, he will change the television in a heart beat to any football game he can find! He loves the Colt's! It was Rogan's first game! They were excited to show off all their Colt's gear and wear it with pride! We were very close to the field which made it very exciting but very loud too!

After arriving home from the smokies the fun didn't end there. Grayson and Rogan were counting the days until Halloween...never ending candy!!! Our neighborhood is so fun this time of year. Everyone decorates and it's just a good time! After all that business and fun, we are ready to unwind a bit and slow down the pace before the Christmas holiday begins. The boys were talking about Christmas while we were in the smokies! They are anxious and already discussing how they are putting up the tree Thanksgiving weekend!

Rogan is currently in Preschool at Fisher's United Methodist Church and he loves it!! He gets so excited to go every time and he just loves his teachers, they are amazing! He is learning so much!! I must say, I do miss him on the days he's gone just like I still miss my Grayson while he's at school each day! Grayson loves school too! I know he's only in 2nd grade but he does so well in all his subjects. Marc and I are so grateful he's so eager to learn and it all comes so easily for him. We hope that continues for him and Rogan as well. Marc is staying busy with his job and enjoying it. He's also a great father and enjoys his time with the boys! I am very lucky to have such a hands on hubby! I am busy trying to keep up with my boys and all the other duties we mother's share. I also enjoy spending time in the boys class rooms helping out. I hear snow is on the way and we are ready at our house, firewood all stacked and ready to burn and the snow blower ready to plow and snow pants and boots waiting to be called upon and hot chocolate to warm us up!!! Bring on the winter cheer!!

Where has summer gone? Has it been that long since my last update..May?I  hope you enjoyed the photos. As I look through the pictures I think , "Wow, we had a great summer!". We were so busy having fun and being crazy too might I ad or shall I say trying to drive me crazy some days. Thank goodness for their wonderful father and my husband who is always so eager to play with them and put them to bed so I can have a break. I recall being extra tired this summer, like most summers because of all the activities we do during the day.

We had a trip to Holiday World this summer and the boys just loved it! They are ready to return. Grayson played flag football and might I ad, it has taken over as his favorite sport. Rogan tried out T-ball and seemed to have a great time. He was excited to get a trophy like his big brother. Marc coached both of their spots this summer and did a great job. Our Saturdays were very busy there for a while. We made many trips to the zoo and The Children's Museum. We also made our way to Conner Prairie. Fall is the very best time of the year at Conner Prairie! We also managed to squeeze in summer reading! I am very proud to say the boys have been a part of the library summer reading program since they were babies! Grayson has become an amazing reader! We also went to my cousin Hillary's farm to visit Isaac and all their animals. The boys keep asking when we are going back..October Hog Roast!

We did a lot of swimming as usual and had many fun times at The Fishers Summer Concerts! The boys just love those and look forward to them every Tuesday evening. We grew a wonderful garden and made many dishes from fresh salsa and breads to muffins and squash caserole from our vegetables. We also made big pots of fresh green beans with potatoes and turkey sausage. We grew huge sun flowers that were visited often by the finches! We had fun celebrating the Fourth of July at Grandpa and Grandma's this summer. Grayson enjoyed playing kickball with all the family and they both had tons of fun fishing. Best of all were the fireworks. I also made the big 40 year birthday. Marc had a wonderful surprise party for me! I had a wonderful time! I certainly love my family! We may be crazy but we have lots of love and fun along the way and a few headaches.

Grayson has started school and has yet another wonderful teacher! The schools here in Hamilton County are so amazing! Rogan begins at Fishers United Methodist Church preschool Tuesday! He met his teacher Mrs. Schweigman on Wednesday. She seems wonderful too. Now that I might have a few calmer hours in my day I can keep more current on our family blog! Marc and Grayson went with our neighbor the other evening to a Colt's game. They had a lot of fun. Grayson is ready to go again. Grayson is signed up for Fall Flag Football and Rogan is taking Pre-K swim lessons at the YMCA. What was that I said about having extra time? The boys are already talking about Christmas! One day at a time! Please! We sent summer out with a bang and looking forward to a great school year! Bring on the fall season!
